Blog Manifesto

Title: Frank Yarns

Tagline: Stories from timeserving soldiers, 1914-?

Who am I when I am writing?
Frank Richards, but when Frank is not available others will contribute. There will also be illustrations, drawings and hopefully the occasional song.
This blog is my own imagined representation of what Frank and pals may have written and shared to any audience who were interested.
Frank’s book Old Soldiers Never Die is my inspiration and the framework for the blog. I don’t aim to copy or represent it, that would be impossible.
I hope to get more people interested in Old Soldiers Never Die by prompting it in a different medium and adding some extra yarning both from Frank and from his pals.
With the exception of this manifesto every other post will be written in the historical present tense – as it happened to Frank and his pals. Therefore there will be some deliberate withholding of information and quite a bit of censorship!

My Promise
  • To pay homage to Frank Richards and his book Old Soldiers Never Die.
  • To share the stories and experiences of Frank Richards and his friends who undertook soldiering as a career.
  • To tell the stories through the ‘imagined’ voice of Frank Richards, one or two of his pals and a few surprise guests.
  • To present the war the way they fought it – with courage and bravery, friendship and humour, stoicism and determination.
  • To present a perspective on the war that is often neglected.
  • To post weekly, aiming for Tuesday, second post, 16.00 or thereabouts.
